YELLOW MAN HORROR EDIT

Image
Editing Horror & Cut Types Task included, getting uncut footage from folder. "Yellow Man" was the name of my film, in which I had videos I had to cut down so they ran smoothly and with more professionalism and to make it more interesting for the audience. (the film was already terrible)  From this photo you can see that at the start that I used a distorted effect to emphasis and make it more scary and to make the viewers feel like their vision is impaired. I also added music at the ending scenes, music was from a nightmare themed movie so it linked in with this piece of work perfectly as this is what the story is about, a yellow suited man chasing someone around with a weapon. Nearer the ending scene, I used a dissolving transition effect which rolled straight through to some graphics, which were the credits I put in to make it look a bit more like a movie. During the part where the hazmat man was about ...

DIFFERENT CUTS

Image
Camera Cuts  Jump Cut The jump cut is a technique which allows the  editor  to jump forward in time. We see an early version of this technique in Einsteins‘s, Battleship Potemkin ,  where the battleship fires a mortar round and we watch the destruction as various angles jump cut from one to another. In this very early version of the jump cut, contemporary audiences were introduced to a new way of time passage in film. It obviously gained traction and is one of the most used types of cuts today next to the hard cut.  L Cut & J Cut First, let’s talk about the  L Cut . This  editing technique  is used not only by narrative filmmakers, but is also a favorite of documentary filmmakers and commercial videographers. What L Cut means is that you are hearing the audio from the previous shot, even though we’ve moved on to another shot. So, t he audience is is looking at clip B but still hearing audio from clip A. Again, this typ...

PSYCHO ESSAY

PSYCHO  Director - Alfred Hitchcock  Film Release Date - 1960 Genre: Mystery/Slasher I have chosen Psycho because this is an iconic masterpiece by a very decorated director, this scene birthed ideas for new directors and this had a big imprint in the film industry, this film revised the standards for horror and suspense films. “Psycho” is a 1960 American psychological mystery/slasher directed by Alfred Hitchcock. The film follows a secretary by the name of Marion Crane who, after embezzling money, finds herself at an isolated motel with the motel 's troubled owner/manager, Norman Bates. The famous “shower scene” features 77 camera angles and contains 50 different film cuts. Most of the shots are extreme close-ups, except for medium shots in the shower right before and after the murder.  The mixture of the close shots with their short period makes this film a more unique “alternative” than it would have been if the images were presented alone or in a wider...

DECONSTRUCTION SCENE

Image
Deconstruction For this task I'm going to deconstruct a scene from silence of the the lambs. Shot 1 (3 seconds) close up:  Camera pans right whilst female protagonist takes deep breaths cautiously before breaking and entering the property of suspicion, we see the character holding a gun and pointing it as breaking into the vicinity, this scene is dark and gloomy and creates the films atmosphere. Shot 2  close up:  Panning right at this point the place of interests door has been barged open and a gun is pointing into the area, the protagonist is taking some caution with a lethal weapon, makes a loud sound as the door is opened and crashes against side of room. Shot 3 Low angle: The protagonist has broken down the door with force and gone against the wall, she is pointing the gun in a position ready to let bullets discharge, as you can see, her facial expressions show fear as her mouth is dropped and the look in her eyes looks fearful...

(Downhill, bad events start taking place) -------------------------- Goodfellas This a great film, its very gritty and realistic to what was happening in America with the mafia and all the families, and also to think it was based on a true story.  ------------------------- THEMES Good versus evil  Triumph over adversity  Revenge  Love Friendship Love Identity  ------------------------- What is the theme of your favorite film? Goodfellas really touches on Respect and Reputation, Family, Violence, and Morality and Ethics. ------------------------- Premise A clear message of the movie/film, it can also be a moral, warning and advice. DIRECTOR RESEARCH

Director Research The film director controls a film's artistic and dramatic aspects and visualise the screenplay (or script) while guiding technical crew and actors with the fulfilment of that vision, the director has a key roll in choosing actors. Skills you'll need to be a director also include,  Creativity, this is a necessity since directors tell stories throughout the film. Communication, on a movie set to keep things running as smoothly as possible. Leadership and management, with so many aspects of a movie under a directors control, skills like these are vital. Personally my favourite director is Martin Scorsese, born in New York and he is well known for his gritty meticulous filmmaking.  He is known for many films that are rated highly by critics such as Goodfellas, taxi driver and raging bull.

SHINING OPINIONS

The Shining What did I think of the film? I thought the film was a masterpiece by a very decorated director, the film was scary and defiantly lived up to its horror genre, the film will have you on the edge of your seat not knowing what to expect next, I feel that this is a great film for anyone thinking about watching it. What did I like about it? I liked the different use of camera angles across the film, this made you feel like you were in the scenes a lot more and the whole film felt like it had more of a presence due to the great work, the film is 2hr 26m long but when you get sucked into the immersive film it goes by quickly and it holds great qualities such as wanting to watch it again immediately. What props do they use? In this film they have the infamous fire axe where he chops some of the door to stick his head through, there is the Jack Torrance red jacket and an attack knife that was used on set, the famous scene in which Shelley Duvall's Wendy...

FIRST EDIT

The task today?  was to import scenes into PremierePro and edit down the clips to run smoothly . What did I do? I imported the clips from a folder into the the Editing software, then I proceeded to cut down the videos so that it looked more professional, excluding parts where camera man would say something, e.g "ready to film" What skills did I learn? I learnt to chop and cut down videos, insert graphics correctly and also have found out how to make ending credits run through nicely + using stop watch feature. What was the final product like? The final product ran through nicely and was edited well with the scenes. Could it of been improved? Camera work could of been less choppy, more sound should of maybe been cut out in certain scenes as sound was filtering into a shot.
