PODCAST EVALUATION

Podcast Evaluation
Intro:
Explain what you had to do for this project? For this project we were asked to produce a podcast, (around 10 minutes long) we individually studied the codes and conventions of podcasts and different styles surrounding them, I took an interest in the Conversational / Co-Host Style, which is a podcast with another presenter, I feel like with another person on the show, conversation can flow smoothly and overall boosts the quality of the podcast. This was not not the first time I had encountered a podcast, I have listened to a few e.g "JRE", "Hotboxin' With Mike Tyson" and "Impulsive"
My aim for this project was to make 10 minute podcast with football being a topic with a sub topic being "Would You Rather?" questions.

Idea Generation:
Explain what you included in your mind map to start your idea process? My mind map had many ideas written down, I wrote "two hosts make for better discussion" - this conversational style had always been an interest, also found on my mind map is, "strong intro, grab the viewers attention and make them want to watch more" - I thought if you come out at the start with a strong good quality start, you'll immerse the audience and have them wanting to listen/watch more. The mind map also consisted of a check list with things such as "Clear Audio, Catchy Music and Jingles" - This are all things that can add to the overall quality of the production.

Pre Production:
Did you plan a schedule for your podcast? My podcast had a schedule planned out, they are on separate blogger posts, I had some of a script down, what I did ensured that I had appropriate structure. I had a list of the equipment being used doing production of the podcast, this included a Nikon camera, SD Card, Zoom Recorder, Mic and Mac/PC. This was strength for me as I had now planned out and had more of an understanding and idea of what my podcast would consist of.

Production:
I recorded my podcast in Third Floor Film's studio, it was a suitable location to film as that is what a studio is meant for, there was equipment and even a green screen if I decided to use it later on.
The equipment worked well for me and there was no faults while using it, no issues whatsoever with the cameras or anything else. I enjoyed filming the podcast in the studio as its a very professional environment and it helped me play the part in my podcast (which was myself - how hard could that be?) I felt this stage was strongly positive as I like filming and don't mind getting in front of the camera, I felt as if a weakness was the planning, I should of had a base script I could follow if we ran out of things to say or any other potential problem. This can be applied next project.

Post / Edit:
What did you have to do? We had to get the footage we had recorded of our podcasts off an SD Card and upload it onto Premiere Pro to then put our editing skills to work. With this project, as we filmed it for 10 minutes and that's how long it is suppose to last, there isn't to much editing to do, just some polishing to boost the overall quality of the edit.

Summary:
What did you learn from creating a podcast production? I learnt that podcasts are usually quite casual and calm to listen to, as they are literally like a conversation happening with you there, just you aren't able to ask the questions, but the majority of the time a question you're thinking about will normally get asked and answered during the podcast, they are brilliant ways to learn about celebrities or anyone of interest. My podcast had a target audience of males aged 13-50 ; anyone who loves football and banter maybe the jokes not being suitable for elder audiences. This project was a bit of a challenge, but so is every other as I'm new to media. If I could do this project again, I'd assign more time to planning and not filming, would make the whole process smoother.

Comments

  1. Well structured evaluation. However, I would also like to see your pre-production tasks, such as the script for your planned podcast, the show notes that explain what is on your show and it's content and also a peer evaluation in which you would ask someone to give you feedback on the finished article. It would also be good to see the podcast on your blog.
