MUSIC VIDEO EVALUATION
Evaluation Music Video
I'm Tad Avery and I study media level 2 at Nescot college, for this task we were told to make a music video (3-5 minutes length) to any music that we wanted, previously followed by this task we were learning some history of musical videos.
Pre Production:
Explain your job role within the production team and your responsibilities during pre-production and planning? I was the director of this task in a group of three including myself, I had to make sure that we had the right equipment and the shots that we would take for the music video (shot list) the other members had to do camera work and set up the tri-pods in certain scenes.
We worked well as a team and got all the shots we aimed to get + more, everyone was on time and knew everything that needed to be done, which we ended up doing as everyone stuck to their role well and it made it a smooth process for filming, we researched and listened to the songs audio without the video so we could have a fresh video to make and not like the original, concept based video and we showed off London and just used the resources which were our surroundings.
Production:
Were you organised in booking your equipment & what equipment? We organised getting the equipment out and used it comfortably when needed, we took out a camera, rode mic, tri-pod and gorilla - pod.
Did you work well with your production team on set? Yes, we worked well and managed to complete everything we set out to do and at a high level. Responsibilities included making sure that all shots were completed and we went to the areas we set out to film at. We did not swap roles throughout the production, but we all took turns using the camera and filming shots, the shot list had influence and we have taken different shots as well. I enjoyed the filming process and we got a lot of high quality shots and of course there are plenty of shots, now looking back, that could of been re filmed as there are always new things that we see and realise could of been done better.
Post Production:
How are you finding Premiere Pro, do you think your skills have improved? I'm enjoying using premiere pro, as I'm new to the software, one always finds new skills to learn and utilise when editing, I've learnt how to fade shots and use special effects to a higher standard and understand transitions much better now, the footage was shared with an SD Card that the group was using, it was easy to transfer onto the computer, the rough edit was not changed.
What are your thoughts on your final edit? I feel like it is a good edit and perfect representation of my skills right now and I have made a lot of improvements since my last edit, there are many things that with time, I will know could improve certain aspects of my edit, I also feel like this promoted my chosen area and was a good video.
Summary:
Talk about key strengths during this assignment? I have learnt to fade shots and have improved overall on my transitions and ability to cut and chop up videos.
For future projects, I will learn more ways to tackle tricky shots and angles, I will also learn how to use effects to a more professional level.
What you enjoyed most about creating this video? Learning new skills and just being faced with a completely new task for me to evolve and learn from, has been good to test me.
