Intro - What were we asked to do?

We were asked to create a 90 second promotional video for Nescot college, for whichever department we chose, originally the group of 3 that I was in decided to film at Performing arts department, upon filming week we went to the drama theatre and were told that we couldn't film now because they only had theory to do, so we had a last minute decision to change and film in the Plumbing department which we then did so. The filming took 1 week interviews included.

The crew consisted of,  

• Maoliosa (Producer & Camera Operator)
• Elle (Filming)
• Tad (Director) 

What was the part you enjoyed most of the project?
I enjoyed going over to another department, to see different aspects on other college courses, the group worked well once I told them what they had to do and we got many shots which were useful in the edit, I enjoyed making questions for the interview and utilising them when the time came.

What went well?
I was strong in my role, as director, I took control over the group and assigned every one to certain roles which they carried out successfully. We filmed over a period 1 week and got a considerable amount of shots to use in our edit for the promotional film. When filming we got two interviews, one being a student and the other a teacher, to talk about the department and answer general questions aimed towards students who may be potential students at Nescot. In comparison to the last task filming, we made sure that things were set in place such as renting out equipment and making sure the SD Cards were taken out of the cameras after filming.

What could you have improved on?
During the interviews the audio wasn't the best and if we were to do this again we will make sure that we use mic or a boom bar and make sure the sound is tested before filming the final shoot. When looking back at all the footage that was taken, there were repetitive shots in which next time we will plan a detailed shot list and cross out whatever shots have been taken at place of filming, this will help give more variety to the angle and shots used next project for an overall higher level piece of work. Some of the shots taken were very unsteady so in the future we should plan on taking a couple takes of each shot, this is to check which is the highest quality steady shot.

What could I have done differently?
I felt like we didn't need to do anything different as this was our second project and it turned out quite well, we are still very inexperienced and with the end of another project, there are plenty of things that looking back, could have been done differently but we now know to apply these to the next unit of studying.

Conclusion.

Overall I found this project to be a small challenge that we overcame and which resulted us to do a good job, during the filming process, we did have a few issues but we quickly solved them and carried on with the work, for example we had everything set up and had planned to film in the drama department only to find out on the day of filming that we could not film there now because they only had practical work to do, we then had to switch over to plumbing which we filmed for the promotional film.

The main thing I am going to take from this project to the following is, different camera work and more detailed shot list, some more planning so when it comes to filming, everything slots into place nicely.

I was the director and look forward to directing more projects.
